Reports reaching radioinfo say 4KZ/Kool FM Innisfail is off-air as its two 400 metre towers were destroyed in the cyclone this morning. Reports also say the station has lost its roof.

Update: 4KZ is now back on air on AM 873 which is their narrowcast frequency.

Weather bureau forecaster Jonty Hall said: “We have reports of fairly major structural damage around the Innisfail area, one from Silkwood which is to the south of Innisfail, and we’ve had reports of some casualties at Cairns hospital, some 20 or so. There’s also some reports of a few people missing as well.”

Innisfail police were inundated with calls from scared residents whose homes were “literally crumbling around them”.
