Core radio skills

AFTRS will again run its highly successful Core Radio Skills course in July – an online, entry level course which is easy to access from anywhere in Australia.

AFTRS Radio Program Leader Lisa Sweeney says the six-week course first ran last year and is proving to be very popular with those who want a taste of radio to see if it is a viable career direction, or for those already working in community radio in 2016.

“Feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with surveys registering 100% satisfaction in terms of valuable information about the industry, practice in a broad range of skills and helpful teacher support throughout the course,” Lisa Sweeney said.

“The course is addressing a specific gap in the learning market – for those who are not able to make their way to the AFTRS building in Sydney due to geographical location or work commitments, it’s a perfect option.”

Comments from Semester One students include:

“Online lessons were easy to navigate.”

“The lecturer provided effective guidance and feedback.”

And

“The lectures were a highlight. Extremely insightful and laid back, allowing for questions to be asked in an approachable way.”

All the content is online and students can study at times of their own convenience, and there is the added bonus of a weekly zoom session to chat with classmates and the lecturer, so there is a sense of community and shared learning.

Core Radio Skills is just one of the suite of online courses available for enrolment in Semester Two.
