The Coodabeens return to ABC Local Radio

Irreverence, wit, humour and the odd tall story will be the order of the day when The Coodabeen Champions return to ABC Local Radio in 2003.

Armed with “an impressive portfolio of programs, the Coodabeens are set to entertain audiences across the country.”

Coodabeen Champion Jeff Richardson said: “We’re really looking forward to the creative challenge of broadcasting a variety of programs to a national audience. The scope of the ABC will allow us to re-acquaint ourselves with many of our old listeners”.

In 2003 The Coodbeens will present the following programs:

The Coodabeens – Sunday Evenings 7.00pm – 9.00pm (nationally on ABC Local Radio)

Where the boys return with a national focus, shaping popular culture with their irreverent and unique brand of radio humour.

The Idlers – Saturday 8.00pm – 10pm (non football season, nationally on ABC Local Radio)

An all-new ‘Coodabeen Champion’ program that focuses on “the hundreds of thousands of people on the move, travelling across our wide brown land.”

‘The Idlers’ will speak to these people with a mixture of stories of life on the road from listeners, as well as first-hand accounts and interviews with experts who will provide vital information for travelers. The program will also feature Australian music.

It will highlight the indigenous and white history of places of interest, add value to the journey, and offer a myriad of hints and tips. Issues discussed will include a range of topics such as safety; 4 wheel driving; caravan park life; cooking on the road; the best places; on road etiquette and holiday work.

Saturday Morning Football on Victorian, Tasmanian and South Australian Local Radio )

A new one hour of famous football clichés, football characters, “with the style and fervour that single handedly inspired a whole new football vernacular and a generation of football humour.”

Not merely content to showcase their wares in the comfort of the studio, the Coodabeens will be sent out and about to cover key sporting and cultural events. All events are up for grabs including The Melbourne Cup, the major football finals, The Australian Tennis Open and the like.

Head of ABC Local Radio, Michael Mason said he is “delighted to welcome the Coodabeens back into the fold of Local Radio. I believe ABC Local Radio is the natural home for the Coodabeens, and this arrangement will allow Local Radio to showcase their talents through a variety of programs.”

The Coodabeen Champions will be on air from Sunday 26 January 2003.
