Community broadcasting sector puts key listener research out to tender

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) has launched a tender process for its national community radio listener survey from 2016.

“The CBAA’s National Listener Survey has been operating for 10 years, and provides invaluable and comprehensive insight into how Australians engage with community radio. It covers who is listening, both in terms of how many listeners there are and the demographics of this group, as well as their locations, preferred listening times and devices, as well as their reasons for tuning in,” said CBAA CEO Jon Bisset.

“The results of the survey are relied upon by the sector for program planning, accountability to funding bodies and promotion to station sponsors. After a decade, the survey has now reached maturity and as the community radio sector continues to grow and evolve, it is timely to review opportunities to ensure that we continue to provide community radio stations, funding bodies and other stakeholders with the best and most effective media research to meet our collective needs.”

The CBAA has appointed Peter Cornelius of Kinesis Media to assist in this tender process for the National Listener Survey. Peter’s career to date has included a distinguished career in advertising and media agencies and, more recently, leading Australia’s largest media research company, Nielsen, and being involved in many media industry tenders of this nature.

The CBAA maintains a good relationship with McNair Ingenuity, which has run the survey since its inception. “McNair Ingenuity worked hand in hand with the sector to develop and run the survey over a number of years, and they are amongst the organisations we’re encouraging to tender,” commented Bisset.
