The commercial radio industry today welcomed the appointment of Senator Mitch Fifield as Federal Minister for Communications.
 
CRA Chief Executive Joan Warner said: “CRA congratulates Minister Fifield on his appointment and we look forward to working closely with him.” 
 
“Broadcast radio plays a vital role in metropolitan and regional areas with the provision of local news and local emergency services information, the commercial radio industry will work with Minister Fifield to ensure all Australians continue to have access to robust and reliable, free, live and local commercial radio”, said Ms Warner. 

It is at this stage unclear whether Senator Fifield will address the Radio Conference on the Gold Coast next month replacing the previous Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull who was elevated to Prime Minister last week, just hours after he was announced as opening speaker.
