Commercial Radio Australia in Canberra for Parliament House event

The event was hosted by 2GB breakfast presenter Alan Jones.

In what has now become an annual event, radio industry CEOs and owners headed to Canberra this evening to host industry drinks at Parliament House and mix with Members and Senators from both sides of politics.

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield also addressed the high-profile gathering.

CRA Board members were there to meet with politicians and emphasise the importance and influence of radio at the start of the Parliamentary year, echoing the sentiments of the UN Secretary General on the importance of the radio medium.

Alan Jones spoke passionately about the power of radio, saying, “it’s not just about making money or how many people we reach, but how we use the influence we have.”

Communications Minister Fifield talked about radio’s immediacy, its capacity to cover events as they unfold and its ability to provoke debate.

The Minister also made special mention of Janet Cameron (Grant Broadcasters, pictured below with Senator Hinch), congratulating her on her recently awarded Order of Australia Medal.

Guests at the event included Deputy Opposition Leader Tanya Plibersek, Greens Leader Senator Richard di Natale, Independent MP Bob Katter, former broadcaster turned Senator Derryn Hinch, Shadow Communications Minister Michelle Rowland, ALP frontbencher Anthony Albanese and members of CRA including Grant Blackley (SCA), Kevin Blyton (Capital Radio Network), Cathy O’Connor (NOVA), Michael Harvey (ARN) and Adam Lang (Macquarie Media).
