Chrissie Swan named Queen of Melbourne’s Moomba Festival

‘Six-year-old Chrissie would not believe it!’

Acting Lord Mayor Arron Wood has revealed the 2018 Moomba Program and announced Nova 100’s Chrissie Swan and TV personality Jimmy Giggle (aka Jimmy Rees), as this year’s Monarchs.

“Families and children are at the heart of Moomba. In keeping with this theme, I am pleased to today announce that acclaimed Nova 100 breakfast radio and television personality, writer and Silver Logie winner Chrissie Swan and much-loved ABC for Kids star Jimmy Giggle, of Giggle and Hoot fame, are our Monarchs for 2018,” the Acting Lord Mayor said.

“Last year, Australia’s largest community festival drew crowds of 1.3 million into the city and generated an economic impact of $29 million.

“We hope to welcome even more families this year, as we pilot a new Moomba Parade route which will begin at Birdwood Avenue then weave through the picturesque Kings Domain parkland and conclude on Linlithgow Avenue near Queen Victoria Gardens.”

Commenting on her title as Moomba Queen, Chrissie Swan said, “What a thrill to be Moomba Queen. I remember Moomba being such a huge thing for me during my childhood.

“Six-year-old Chrissie would not believe it if I had told her that one day it would be HER on the float in the parade. It truly is a dream come true, plus I’m enjoying making everyone refer to me as Her Majesty – even if it’s only for four days!”
