CEOs and innovators boost National Radio Conference lineup

Janine Allis, founder of Boost Juice Bars, Michael Anderson, CEO of Mediaworks and Anthony Everard, head of the Big Bash League, have joined the speaker lineup at the National Radio Conference.

The three business leaders will appear on a CEO panel to discuss leadership and the factors that have driven their extraordinary success.

Allis is a self-made entrepreneur who has achieved $2 billion in global sales through her juice and smoothie empire and has won numerous awards.  She was the first female director on the board of the Hawthorn Football Club and is a mentor on Channel Ten’s Shark Tank.

Anderson was appointed CEO of New Zealand’s biggest TV and radio broadcaster in September.  Prior to this he was chairman of oOh!media and OzTAM, a non-executive director of Fairfax Media and spent seven years as chief executive officer of Austereo (now Southern Cross Austereo).

Everard has developed Cricket Australia’s Big Bash League into Australia’s fastest growing domestic sports league, with average match attendances second only to AFL and national television ratings above one million per match.

The CEOs join headliners Hamish & Andy and Federal Communications Minister Mitch Fifield at the national conference in Melbourne on Friday, October 8. Other leading speakers include:

·         Dean Capello, executive vice president and chief content officer at WNYC/New York Public Radio, which is redefining public radio in the 21st century through its acclaimed radio programs, podcasts, and live events; and 

·         Pat Baron, chief creative officer at McCann Melbourne, one of the advertising industry’s most innovative thinkers who brings two decades of experience in behavioural change communications and has been awarded at every major international award show, including for the campaign “Dumb Ways to Die”.

The ABC and SBS will also join commercial radio experts on two panels discussing the role of radio news in the digital era and diversity in broadcasting.

Media agencies represented by Peita Pacy and Amanda Buckley from Carat, Rebecca Ho from Starcom and Zoe May from Maximus Communications Australia will head up a panel of media buyers and strategists to talk about what radio can do to increase its share of advertising revenue.

Joan Warner, chief executive officer of industry body Commercial Radio Australia, said: “Radio is a fiercely competitive business but the national conference is a great opportunity for the industry to come together to focus on the future and think about how we tackle the strategic challenges ahead.”

More than 600 people will attend the conference at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. The 28th annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards will follow on Saturday, 8 October. The full conference program is attached and online.
