Call for Murwillumbah to host state of origin game

Following confirmation one of the 2019 Origin games will be played in Perth, Anthony Laffranchi has used his Radio 97 morning show segment to call on officials to consider the Tweed as an alternative location to host one of next year’s Origin encounters.

“It’s a funny one”, he told breakfast host Scott Mayman during his regular discussion topic.

“… In my playing days, I went to Melbourne and then it was like moving it away from the Queensland and New South Wales backyard, if you’ve got 15,000 going to Melbourne, why not put those 15,000 in Murwillumbah and probably get a better atmosphere.”

Laffranchi is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer.

As for a game in Perth, Laffranchi said, “I can’t really see it working”.

Adding, “We shouldn’t wait for 2019.

“Instead, let’s call for an Origin game to be played next year in Murwillumbah”.

The suggestion was purely tongue-in-cheek ofcourse.

“Laffranchi’s Locker-room” can be heard each Thursday morning on Radio 97  FM104.1 and 103.5FM
