Brisbane commercial licence auction date

The ABA has named the date for the auction of the Brisbane commercial licence – 30 May. The ABA has received 5 applications from the licence. The auction for the licence, on 97.3 FM, will be held at the Brisbane City Hall, beginning at 10am. Only registered applicants will be allowed to bid.

The reserve price for the licence is $500,000, but the bidding is expected to go into the millions. Networks likely to be interested in the licence include:

ARN, which owns two AM stations in Brisbane, but would like an FM licence,
RG Capital, which has a network of profitable stations north and south of Brisbane,

DMG, which has bought the Sydney and Melbourne licences,
And several other smaller groups which could benefit by having a capital city such as Brisbane in their network.
