Bob Rogers’ memorable tribute evening

Bob Rogers’ 60th Tribute was “a great night” reports one of our radioinfo correspondents who was there.

Many legends were amongst the 800 guests including main speaker Alan Jones, Bob’s Macquarie Network boss John Singleton, and of
course, Chubby Checker who along with Col Joye and Judy Stone and others contributed the entertainment.

Chubby was amazing – I saw him at the Copacabana in New York in 1962 and he still looks great. He does this thing where the band keeps on honking and Chubby dances with all the middle aged adolescents who can climb on the stage and there were hundreds of them. Some of them can really move too – it went on for about an hour.

Gary O’Callaghan, Phil Haldemann and Geoff Harvey were there amongst a horde of radio and show biz notables, and Ray Hadley raised many thousands of dollars for a homeless youth charity auctioning off some fabulous stuff.

John Brennan, Alan Jones and John Singleton all spoke about Bob’s
illustrious career and some amazing recorded tributes were heard from such superstars as Kay Starr, Patti Page, Frankie Laine, Sir Cliff Richard, Barry Gibb and others.

It was a truly memorable evening.
