Ben Fordham to focus on talkback and fatherhood

2GB talkback host Ben Fordham has today said ‘farewell’ to viewers of the Channel Nine’s Today Show. The popular presenter has chosen to focus on his top-rating talkback radio show on Sydney’s 2GB and new fatherhood.

He and wife Jodie Speers are expecting their first child, due next Friday.

Fordham has spoken of his regret at leaving the Today Show after four years, saying he just doesn’t have time for both TV and radio anymore, now that he is to become a dad.

He told The Daily Telegraph:

“I have signed on for three more years with both Nine and 2GB with the blessing of (Nine boss) David Gyngell who has been a great supporter of my radio career and who, frankly, promoted me for the radio job in the first place. I realised this year, though, after knocking back the TV job of my dreams — a gig on 60 Minutes earlier this year — that my greatest career dream had long been to have my own radio show. I’ve felt like that since I was about 12 years old so, after working long days for four years, radio is coming first — well, after Jodie and the baby.”

Fordham shed tears during his emotional farewell this morning

Fordham says he may appear on Channel Nine from time-to-time, however is looking forward to focusing on ‘making great radio’. He told The Daily Telegraph:

With a new baby and a strengthening afternoon audience on GB, the afternoon slot suits me just fine.

Ben Fordham can be heard on Sydney’s 2GB weekday afternoons from 3-6.
