Award winning UK Prison Radio CEO to keynote CBAA Conference

The UK Prison Radio Association’s Chief Executive Phil Maguire will deliver the keynote address at the 2018 CBAA Conference on the Gold Coast.

Maguire was founding CEO of the UK’S Prison Radio Association, which includes the world’s first and only national radio station for prisoners National Prison Radio

In a fast-paced multimedia address at the November conference, Maguire will draw on his experience to share what he’s learnt, while building an award-winning service that specialises in creating media to transform lives and reduce crime. His talk will cover:

  • IMPACT: producing life-changing content without compromising on quality.
  • SOLUTIONS: the power of Solution Focussed Journalism.
  • VOICES: the central role of the ‘expert citizen’.
  • EMPOWERMENT: giving a platform to those in the margins.
  • PARTNERSHIPS: the potential of creating powerful partnerships.
  • COMMUNITY: building trust, developing relationships, growing an audience.

Phil has worked extensively in British media with stints on the Jeremy Vine Show (BBC Radio 2), The Sunday Supplement and The Late Debate (Granada Television). He is the winner of 10 Sony Radio Academy Awards and PRA Productions was most recently named Indie of the Year at the 2017 Audio Production Awards.

Delegates will also be able to get the lowdown on what’s happening in Australian prison radio programming in a workshop which looks at formats, experiences and the future in our local sector. The workshop, which will be presented by prison radio specialists Dr Charlotte Bedford and Dr Heather Anderson and will provide a forum for discussion on the benefits and challenges of working within different correctional jurisdictions, the ways in which stations are producing prison-related content and how interested stations can get involved in the process.
