Audiotheque – Cinema For the Ear

The Audiotheque – Cinema For the Ear is a live listening event to be held at The Studio, Sydney Opera House at 8pm Monday 14 April.

Event organiser Jackie Randles says: “Once, listening to the radio was an adventure. Before relentless commercial hype, shock jocks and mediocre music, we gathered together – imaginations fired by thrilling dramas, live music, remarkable speeches.”

Now the experience of “enraptured collective listening returns in The Audiotheque; an evening to open ears to a sonic universe of radio features, field recordings, sound art and live music.”

Highly produced or completely raw, “the things you’ll hear in The Audiotheque will stay with you long after the event.” Sound journeys to new places: Cinema for the Ear.

Join Audiotheque for “an evening of sound journeys to new places, featuring a rare ‘screening’ of Walter Ruttman’s pioneering film Weekend (Berlin, 1930), a sonic trip through radio around the world, a walk in the garden of the late Derek Jarman, with music by Sherre DeLys and Chris Abrahams of The Necks, and a live performance by The Loop Orchestra, cutting, dissecting and rearranging sounds to create innovative music with tape loops played on reel-to-reel tape machines.”

Price: $8/$10. Further info and bookings at www.sydneyoperahouse.com/thestudio or book by phone: 02 9250 7777
