Audiocraft Podcast Festival headed to Sydney

This June, the biggest podcast event in the Asia Pacific, Audiocraft Podcast Festival will explore all things podcasting as part of Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.

Off the back of international successes such as Serial, S-Town and Missing Richard Simmons, podcasting is gathering momentum and commercial and creative interest.

The Audiocraft Conference (June 2) is a chance for 300+ radiomakers and producers to converge and unpack topics such as the ‘Australian sound’, media power and the politics of inclusion, and the creative business of podcasting.

To lead the discussions, Audiocraft is bringing together some exciting audio creatives and game-changers including:

  • Audible’s Jesse Baker (Where Should We Begin? with Esther Perel)Collin Campbell (Ponzi Supernova Sincerely, X) – to talk about the journey of bringing to life big, ambitious stories.
  • Award-winning radio documentary producer Eleanor McDowall (Falling Tree Productions / BBC Short Cuts / Radio Atlas) – to explore experimentation and using the intimacy of audio to craft stories that are visceral and linger in the mind.
  • Alice Brennan (ABC RN’s Background Briefing), Danny Teece-Johnson (NITV), Tom Morton (UTS) – to discuss how the tools and codes of ethics in journalism apply to podcasting.
  • Robert Smith (NPR’s Planet Money), Michelle Macklem (CBC’s Sleepover with Sook-Yin Lee / Constellations), Natalie Kestecher, Joel Werner (ABC), Jon Tjhia (Wheeler Centre) & Helen Zaltzman (The Allusionist from Radiotopia) – to share inspirations behind their creative work and processes.
Additional activities happening around the Festival include the Original Content Development Retreat co-hosted by Audible and Audiocraft, live shows featuring The Allusionist (Radiotopia), ATMOS (by Darwin’s StoryProjects) and Radio Atlas, as well as audio-making workshops.

Audiocraft Podcast Festival takes place on June 1-3, across various venues in Sydney. Tickets are on sale now.
