Audible’s Eric Nuzum to speak at Audiocraft

Eric Nuzum Senior Vice President of Original Content Development at Audible, the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spokenspoken-wordtainment—will join the lineup at this year’s Audiocraft conference.

During his time at Audible, Eric has developed groundbreaking original audio series such as Ponzi Supernova and 100:1 The Crack Legacy, soon to be available to Australian audiences. Before coming to Audible, Nuzum was Vice President of Programming at NPR, where he was an early pioneer in digital audio and developed popular shows including InvisibiliaAsk Me Anotherand TED Radio Hour, which have become pillars of NPR’s podcasting portfolio.

In an Australian-first, Eric Nuzum will present a keynote reflecting on his observations of global trends within the audio industry. Nuzum is deft at identifying and developing innovative original audio programs and new opportunities for creators. With his sharp editorial instincts and business acumen, he offers unique insight into emerging models and platforms for content creation and cross-collaboration. Nuzum will share advice on what makes short form audio content successful, how to infuse innovation into the creative process for audio, and how to attract and build support from audiences, industry and investors.

In its second year the Audiocraft Conference program expands in theme and topics to engage with and reflect the diversity of genres, interests and experiences across the audio landscape today. Whether aspiring, emerging or established, there is something for producers from across all sectors and skill levels. Program highlights include: 

  • An in-conversation between Radiotopia’s Megan Tan (USA) (Millennial) and podcaster Sophie Harper (Not By Accident). The two producers will unpack their creative approaches to making deeply personal audio and discuss how they manage their self-directed podcasting careers.
  • Fresh from her SXSW win for the SBS online documentary ‘My Grandmother’s Lingo’, multiple Walkley award-winning journalist and producer Gina McKeon sits down with Audiocraft’s Jess Bineth to discuss digital innovation, storytelling and collaboration. 
  • A panel discussion on finding new stories and voices outside your bubble with particular focus on participant and audience experiences. Featuring Jess O’Callaghan (The Party Room and RN Drive), Jessica Cox (2SER 107.3), Jess Ong (SPUN) and Charmaine Ingram (ABC Open). 
  • In a panel moderated by Tom Wright (The Bugle and ABC Radio Comedy), Lee Tran Lam (The Unbearable Lightness of Being Hungry), Andrew Levins (Hey Fam, Serious Issues, and The Mitchens), and Kamna Muddagouni (Can U Not?) talk about how they package niche podcasts to broad audiences, and about how we can best elevate the quality of conversation style podcasts.   
  • Eurydice Aroney leads a discussion with Kirsti Melville (ABC RN), Daniel Browning (ABC RN), Michael Green (The Messenger) about how to navigate difficult storytelling and ensure that both the journalist and individuals represented are protected.
  • ABC RN’s Belinda Lopez and Jesse Cox will take apart an episode of their podcast This Is About and talk through their creative processes, from the interview right through to the final mix. 
The Audiocraft Conference is a day for radiomakers and podcasters from all over Australia to come together and skill-up, share new ideas, celebrate original and locally produced content and meet potential collaborators.
