The antarctic vortex causing problems for a NSW radio station

Snow continues to fall in New South Wales closing roads and in the case of 2GZ FM in Orange, causing problems with the transmission.

The station has posted details on their Facebook page apologising for the continued disruptions.

“Due to the bad weather which caused damage to equipment on Mt Canobolas over the past few days, 2GZ FM is experiencing technical issues that require human intervention. Snow and rain continues to fall on Mt Canobolas and access is not possible with emergency services and police not allowing vehicles or people on foot to the summit. The safety of all technicians involved is paramount to this station. Until we receive a safety clearance from emergency services we are unable to repair transmission complications. We have all resources available and ready to go as soon as we get the green light and are allowed to travel to the top of the mountain. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Meantime for the very first time in nearly 40 years Bathurst received a dumping of snow that settled on the ground at some places 3-inches thick.

1503 2BS Gold & 99.3 B-Rock FM  kept the Bathurst district informed with road and school and busline closures throughout the morning.

Once that was done the team decided to let their hair down and indulge in a snowball fight right out the front of the stations! It was announcers vs technical vs sales team.

And combining the power of social media and radio, listeners have been tweeting and facebooking pictures of their snowy backyards into radio station websites and facebook pages all over the affected areas.

It is the bigghest dump of snow in areas below the snow line in NSW for more than a decade.

The weather is so crazy it’s also snowed in Queensland. B105 have posted several pics on their website.

Take a look at these from the 2BS Facebook page:
