Animal Rights show on 2RRR

Sydney Community Radio station 2RRR 88.5 FM is about to launch an animal rights activist program called ‘Open Your Eyes’.

The one hour program will air on the first Saturday of every month at 1pm, starting on December 7th 2002 and will be hosted by 2RRR’s long-time arts presenter Danielle Archer.

‘Open Your Eyes’ will include information on Animal Rights Organisations in Australia and around the world, website reviews, current campaigns, media coverage of animal issues, animal rights rallies and events, interviews with activists and others, ideas on how to locate resources and support and information about leading a healthy cruelty free lifestyle.

Presenter Danielle Archer has been producing and presenting ‘The Chocolate Frog Show’ at 2RRR for eight years and has served on the station’s board of directors. Danielle has a degree in Communications and has led a varied media career including involvement in teaching and working with students at both at both TAFE NSW and The University of Western Sydney. She is currently working as Program Director for national youth radio network, Radio Out There. She is also a vegetarian who believes in the worth and value of all creatures.

“Community radio is about giving a medium to the message and a voice to those who would otherwise be silenced. An animal rights program will give a voice to those who are silenced in the truest and purest sense,” says Archer.

Recently, on her program “The Chocolate Frog Show”, Archer began a series of community announcements challenging the idea of animals as entertainment and has spoken out against things such as circuses, horseracing and bullfights and she is now taking this one step further by dedicating an hour of airtime each month to animal rights issues.
