The Wagner family is suing Alan Jones and 2GB for defamation over Grantham flood claims.
 
At an inquiry this year into the Grantham floods which killed 12 people four years ago, Denis Wagner challenged claims made by Jones and others that his former quarry made the deadly Grantham floods worse, and hit out at the “terribly vindictive” media.
 
A subsequent inquiry into the flood and it’s causes found that any impact from the quarry was “insignificant”.
 
Commissioner Walter Sofronoff QC in handing down his findings on October 9 said, “I found that the quarry did not play any role in the flood,” and that Wagners had been, “unjustly blamed by some people,” as the quarry’s former owners.
 
In a statement issued by the family Mr. Wagner said, “The outcome of proceedings will hopefully in some way go toward correcting the false and defamatory statements about the 2011 Grantham flood tragedy and the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport that have caused significant damage to the reputation of our family, the operation of the airport and our wider business interests.”
