AFTRS students launch AFTRS FM 2018

AFTRS Graduate Diploma of Radio students have launched their third pop-up station of the year.

The talk and current affairs-focused station is live around Australia until Friday, September 7 on the iHeart Radio app and via the AFTRS FM website.

The music program focuses on indie/alternative, pop and rock/classic rock genres and the station will also feature a series of Radio Plays produced in collaboration with AFTRS Screenwriting students.

AFTRS Head of Radio, Fyona Smith says students are passionate about supporting homegrown music.

“Over 20% of AFTRS FM music is by Australian Indigenous artists, including Baker Boy, Emily Wurramara, Busby Marou, Apakatjah and more.”

Students, who will work in the roles of Announcer, Producer, Executive Producer, Segment Producer, and Newsreader, will give the station 24 hours of content per day.

Today, students were air checked by well-known Australian television & radio presenter, Angela Catterns.

Many students are already interning and working casually at major radio stations including 2GB, Macquarie Sports Radio, ABC, SBS and Star 104.5.
