ABC News Radio broadcasts ‘technical chatter’ following dead air

Sydney listeners were treated to an unplanned behind-the-scenes glimpse of live radio when ABC News Radio went off-air prior to the headlines at 9am yesterday morning, for around ten minutes.

Once transmission was restored, listeners overheard a chat between an ABC staffer and a cryptocurrency expert.

Listeners heard the expert discuss the difficulty in explaining what blockchain is because no one seems to understand the tech behind cryptocurrencies, followed by “technical chatter” as technicians discussed how to fix the problem, Fairfax reports.

“The ABC News on radio’s analogue service was off-air in Sydney for several minutes this morning de to a technical fault in its transmission network,” said an ABC Radio spokesman. “The fault did not affect the network’s digital or on-demand services.”
