ABC digs Dalet for internet station

Dalet Digital Media Systems has installed the Dalet Media Asset Management and OnAirNow! products at the ABC’s new DiG Radio station (www.abc.net.au/dig).

DiG Radio is ABC’s new Internet radio station with programming that crosses a broad range of styles including: R&B, blues, country, roots, world, folk, jazz, funk, rock, pop and electronica.

The ABC decided to use the Dalet Media Asset Management and OnAirNow! products to manage and facilitate DiG Radio’s entire broadcast operation.

“Dig Radio has been up and running on the Dalet products for several months. The Dig team officially launched the portal during the Queenscliff Music Festival held in Victoria, Australia, November 2002,” according to Dalet’s Pierre-Henri Humblot. “Everyone is happy with the integration, efficiency and the demonstrated reliability of the system.”

The Dalet products run on standard IT hardware. Users can manage the DiG Radio broadcast from any desktop on the network using the Dalet client application. At the core of the DiG Radio operation is Dalet’s Media Asset Management software. Dig Radio engineers use the Dalet Media Asset Management tool to acquire, edit and schedule media and associated metadata information. A central Dalet database server stores the media for quick retrieval and publishing to DiG Radio’s web site.

Integrated with the Dalet Media Asset Management software is Dalet OnAirNow!. Dalet OnAirNow! enables DiG Radio to synchronize metadata with the song during the broadcast stream. Visitors not only hear the music, but they are able to view track, artist, album, label and CD cover information. The publishing and synchronization process in Dalet OnAirNow! is fully automated. There are no additional resources needed to facilitate the Internet broadcast.

Founded in 1990, Dalet is “a leading developer of software solutions that facilitate the management of audio and video assets for broadcast, entertainment, government, education, corporations and non-profit organizations.”

Developed for standard IT hardware, Dalet software solutions enable people to capture, manage and store digital media. Traded on the EURONEXT Stock Market (DALE.LN), Dalet has offices throughout the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific. Operating worldwide, Dalet solutions are used in 60 countries by over 1,700 customers.
