ABC Canberra’s new radio studios – technical fitout

ABC Radio Canberra’s new studios have been repainted and reworked
so that they are more visible to three production areas then they were
in the past, giving better line of sight between production and announcing
staff (control room pictured).

The studio desk layout has also been turned around to allow announcers
a better view of the outside through the tall thin studio windows.

Announcers use a Senheiser headset microphone attached to their headphones,
while guest mics are AKGs.

At the heart of the broadcast desk is a Klotz panel, with inputs from
the Netia system and standard minidisk and CD inputs.

The ABC’s music jukebox and network pulse system has been integrated
into the digital desk. The panel is split in two, allowing access to prompt
screens and for papers to sit in the middle, an important touch for a talk
radio studio.

Elsewhere in the building, a large glass fronted Master Control room
houses the servers for the Klotz desk and for TV equipment. The building
and studio works cost $6 million overall.
