90.9 Sea FM’s Ben Hannant cycles for 24 hours in cancer appeal

90.9 Sea FM Gold Coast breakfast announcer and NRL legend Ben Hannant just wrapped up a 24 hour cycle marathon for the breakfast team’s very first ‘Help Me Hannant’ event.

Ben, along with the support of local Gold Coaster’s, managed to ride more than the width of Australia and back with a total of more than 10,000km’s ridden.

Gold Coast wife and mother of two children, Bec was diagnosed with two brain tumours in late December last year, aged just 36 years old. She is the sister of one of the 90.9 Sea FM team.

Since she was disgnosed, one tumour has been surgically removed however the other is inoperable. Bec will undergo her second brain surgery soon with the aim shrink the tumour and extend time with her family.

Unsure of the level of care Bec may require post-operation, a GoFundMe page has been created to help alleviate medical finances and assist with family support.

There has been an overwhelming response from the Gold Coast community not only offering their donations but riding alongside Ben during the 24 hour period. Locals included Mat Rogers, Ash Bradnam, Courtney Hancock, Liz Cantor, Amanda Abate, Eva Milic, Jarrod Wallace and Chloe Maxwell.

Ben Hannant says he is blown away by the support the Gold Coast has given to Bec and her family:

“The small things have now turned into big things, which we as a Gold Coast community have achieved for a family who has a big fight ahead of them. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy in life and Bec knows how worthwhile her family is and how important it is to fight. The whole team here has been blown away by the support and we can’t thank you enough.”

Over $152,000 has been raised so far.
