720 ABC Perth presenter to retire

The countdown to a major change in the Perth Breakfast radio landscape has begun, with top rating 720 ABC Perth presenter Eoin Cameron confirming he will present his final show in four week’s time, on Friday 11 March.

Eoin’s somewhat reluctant retirement plan kicked into gear due to ongoing health issues sustained in a car accident in 2013. Despite numerous operations, and stretches of time away from work, Eoin’s recovery remains incomplete and earlier this year he announced his intentions to say goodbye to fulltime radio presentation, and focus instead on his complete recovery.

“I know many people look forward to their retirement, I’m not one of them. I’ve been so blessed to be able to do a job that I love so much’” Eoin said.

“When I left school at 14 years of age, I couldn’t have imagined what a wonderful working life was ahead of me. Throughout my Broadcasting career I’ve tried to treat my listeners like they were my family, and that’s what they’ve become. I shall miss them so much, and I would have given anything to be with them for at least another ten years, but sadly that is not the case. The ABC has been wonderful to me since my accident, and of course they will always be part of my Family. As for Brad McCahon (the Slim but Savage One) had it not been for my beautiful friend, I wouldn’t have lasted the last fourteen years.”

Sarah Knight, 720 ABC Perth Local Manager said “It has been a fantastic 14 years with Eoin as part of the team, he really is one of a kind. We will miss him and wish him all the best for the next phase of his life.”

While Eoin is opting for a quiet departure without much fanfare, listeners are invited to farewell Eoin via the usual channels – talkback (1300 222 720), social media (@720ABCPerth on facebook and twitter) and mail (GPO Box 9994) before his final show.

The new 720 ABC Perth Breakfast presenter will be announced in March.
