3RRR’s moving Radiothon

Melbourne’s 3Triple R is in the middle of its annual radiothon to raise funds for the running of the station and an impending relocation.

Triple R is currently located in Victoria Street, Fitzroy, in an old warehouse style building. The premises have been rented on a standard commercial lease basis for over 20 years.

The station says: “In April 2004 our current lease expires and the owners of the building have decided to expand their existing operation and need to use the space Triple R occupies.

“We all know how costly, time consuming and stress inducing moving house can be, so imagine moving a 24 hour live-to-air radio station! The costs associated with moving a broadcasting service are substantial.”

Not only does Triple R need to find a suitable location and premises, it will also have to redevelop a building to construct new studios and offices, and hopefully a special space to continue its exclusive live to air performances.

Triple R is hoping to purchase a building so it can have secure long-term premises to operate from.

“The station operates with the support of our subscribers and sponsorship revenue but this income is only sufficient for Triple R to continue to broadcast day to day and year to year. The money to move must be generated in addition to this existing support,”says Triple R.

3 Triple R’s breakfast show has incubated many well known radio presenters and comedy talents over the years.

A range of special prizes are offered for new subscribers and people who contribute funds to assist with the move.
