Thursday 24 October, 2002

Talk 1116 3AK, in partnership with Request Broadband (Request) have announced that Internet Streaming services are now accessible, allowing world wide access to Talk 1116 3Ak, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Request, a major wholesale business broadband provider Australia wide, is supplying upstream internet bandwidth to audiostream 3AK out to the world wide web. The unique solution uses the latest MPEG4 streaming technology along with Apple Quicktime software over Request’s high capacity broadband infrastructure.

“The proven reliability and bandwidth of the Request broadband network underpins this partnership,“ said Request CEO Philip Sykes. “With an estimated number of hits to the 3AK site of 100,000 per year, broadband is able to provide listeners with a free-to-air experience through their PC.”

This high quality streaming will become a media-streaming showcase and is the first to launch the new solution using Apple Quicktime, implemented by the broadcast solutions company Commcord Communications (Commcord).

“Further developments will include the ability to include advertising engines and web cams in conjunction with the audio streaming”, said Commcord CEO John Karantzis. “This will provide an audio visual experience for radio listeners via their PC, providing interactivity with the possibility of an AV chatroom in the future”.
