2SER celebrates 40 years with a Family Reunion Broadcast

Community radio station 2SER 107.3 is now forty years young and over its history the station has been lauded for its ground-breaking radio programming and cultural impact.

The station has been a space for learning and innovation all throughout its existence and has pioneered dozens of music shows, award-winning documentaries, Sydney’s first queer radio program Gaywaves, and prison program Jailbreak

2SER has also trained thousands of journalists and been the launch pad of many careers of those in media.

On October 1st, 2SER celebrated with a Family Reunion Broadcast, featuring past presenters, staff and volunteers of note with guests including Tanya Plibersek (Shadow Minister for Education and Training), Keith Jackson (Founding Manager of 2SER), Robbie Buck (ABC Sydney/Triple J), Eleanor Hall (ABC radio host), Anna Vidot (ABC Radio Canberra) Ian Rogerson (2CH), Richard Kingsmill (ABC/Triple J), Luke Dearnley (Freaky Loops presenter and organiser), Mitch Byatt (Southern Cross Austereo), Mike Williams (ABC podcaster) and more.

Robbie Buck says “A healthy media landscape is a broad media landscape and it is essential to have independent voices within that landscape and 2SER, for 40 years, has been an independent voice, and it doesn’t matter where you end up, you know how important that voice is.”

Tanya Plibersek says, “Everyone I know who went on to have a career in radio started at 2SER.”

Current Station Manager, Martin Walters, says “After 40 years it’s safe to say 2SER is a cultural institution, a gem in Sydney’s media landscape, and we invite all present and past listeners, personnel and friends to celebrate this achievement.

“This milestone could not have been reached without the ongoing support of loyal supporters and listeners, and we’re asking everyone to consider supporting us financially this month in our annual fundraising drive.”
