2019 National Podcast Listener Survey #NABShow

Futuri Media, University of Florida and NAB have released the results of their 2019 National Podcast Listener Survey.
 
The survey, of 2000 podcast listeners, profiles their demographics, social media habits, format preferences, reach/frequency TSL, top platforms, listening locations and more.
 
Not surprisingly the top age groups are 25-34(33.8%), 35-44(20.1%) Millennials and Gen Xers. Of those 53.9% are 25-44 and 45% are 18-34.
 
The survey found that 50.2% of podcast listeners have a college degree, they mostly listen at home, on mobile, for an average of 50 minutes.


 
There were a couple of surprises in the survey,

  • the first was the definition of podcast, which to the listener was anything on demand, audio or video. 
  • Favourite radio format for podcast listeners is Classic Rock, with CHR a long way back in 8th. Hip Hop, News Talk and Country formats rounded out the top 4. 
  • YouTube was the #1 destination for podcast consumption
