In the ‘Knit’ of time at 774 ABC Melbourne

Thursday 20 November, 2003
Lynne Haultain

ABC 774 Melbourne’s Afternoon Program Lynne Haultain is supporting a ‘Knit In’ in aid of the “Wangaratta Knitters” who are trying to knit the world’s longest scarf (32 kilometres) as part of the Wangaratta ‘Stitched Up Festival.’ Once the target is met the scarf will be turned into blankets for the homeless.

The knit in began when Haultain interviewed Sally Bolitho, Organiser of the Stitched Up Textile Festival, about the World Record attempt.

The knitters’ initiative will be supported with a live broadcast in the Iwaki Auditorium next Wednesday 26th November between 1pm to 4pm. 774 ABC Melbourne listeners are being given the opportunity to secure a double pass to be in the audience for this special broadcast.

To make a contribution, participants in the OB are being encouraged to use 8 ply knitting yarn and 4mm needles to knit a basic garter stitch of 66 stiches.
