CRA lobbies phone makers to include DAB+ chip

Commercial Radio Australia CEO, Joan Warner has confirmed that the peak body is actively pursuing a deal with Samsung to include a DAB+ radio chip in their popular Galaxy series of smart phones.

Addressing a radio seminar at the Tamworth Country Music Festival last week, Ms Warner expressed frustration with Apple’s inflexibility in coming to the party given that many of its latest iPhones already contain a digital radio chip that only required activation.

It is understood that CRA’s attention has now swung to Samsung which has been offered a multi-million advertising schedule free of charge to entice it to install the chips in its phones.

For users, the benefit will be that by using the chip instead of an app, their data plans will not be affected.
