Xtra Research wins tender to provide regional surveys

Xtra Research has been appointed as Commercial Radio Australia’s official provider of regional radio surveys, beginning January 2016.
Xtra will undertake radio audience measurement for markets outside of the five capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and three major centres of the Gold Coast, Canberra and Newcastle, which are already covered by the current GfK Audience Measurement Survey contract.

With changes in technology, music research has moved from playing music hooks in auditoriums or over the phone, to online and on smartphones.

"It is vital that research now uses smartphones," was the message from a panel of experts in a RadioDays research session titled Research is the new Oil.

"Online research has come into its own," said Paul Amos from Xtra Research Australia.

Mixx FM leads Horsham survey

The first Horsham survey in six years has been released, with Ace Radio's Mixx FM leading the market, followed ABC Local Radio and 3WM.

Top station Mixx scored a 35.2% overall share, and also won breakfast.

Second placed ABC captured 25.6% of the istening audience, and was second in breakfast.

3WM was third on 23.2%.

Mix dominated most demographics, except the over 55s, which was won by ABC.

3WM won mornings, Mixx won afternoons and drive, ABC won evenings and weekends.

Horsham survey due this morning

Results from the first radio industry audience measurement survey in Horsham in 6 years will be released shortly.

Local Horsham radio stations commissioned Xtra Research to carry out the survey which involved 600 respondents and was conducted between 3 November and 16 November 2014. 

Long time between surveys for Hobart

Finally, tomorrow, Hobart’s first survey in 12 years will be delivered.

Back in 2011 when Hobart’s “first survey in nine years” was eagerly anticipated by local stations and advertisers alike, it was abandoned at the last minute.
