WorldDAB turns its attention to voice control in the car

The world body behind DAB+, WorldDAB, continues to plan the future of the in-car user experience for digital radio and is now turning its focus to the DAB+ user experience of voice control and hybrid radio.

The WorldDAB Automotive Working Group will consult with vehicle manufacturers and broadcasters in 2021 to help develop DAB+ guidelines for using voice control as part of hybrid radio in the car.

This work will take place in the first quarter of 2021, with the new Guidelines being published in March 2021.

WorldDAB’s latest market report reveals that by the end of Q2 2020, over 93 million consumer and automotive DAB/DAB+ receivers had been sold in Europe and Asia Pacific – up from 82 million one year earlier.

WorldDAB urges broadcasters to prioritise the visual radio experience in the car

WorldDAB has launched a campaign with the support of its Automotive User Experience (UX) Group members to encourage broadcasters to use their visual assets to keep digital radio prominent in car dashboards.

The campaign underlines the important role visual information now plays in providing a positive digital radio experience for drivers and it offers guidance to broadcasters on how to use information they already have in the form of metadata to provide a richer experience for the driver.

DAB/DAB+ digital radio sales reach 75 million worldwide

WorldDAB’s latest market report reveals that by the end of Q4 2018, over 75 million consumer and automotive DAB/DAB+ receivers had been sold in Europe and Asia Pacific, up from 65 million in Q4 2017 with 4,733,000 having been sold in Australia.

WorldDAB announces workshop agenda for RadioAsia 2017

WorldDAB's DAB+ workshop, taking place at the start of RadioAsia 2017 in Bangkok, has been revealed.

With Thailand recently announcing plans to launch digital radio in 2018, the programme includes key speakers from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). The workshop takes place from 09:00-12:30 on April 26th to 28th.
