Vision Radio Network Launches 300th Station

Ian Worby, CEO of UCB Australia, recently visited Yarrawonga, Victoria, to ‘flick the switch’ on Vision Radio Network’s 300th radio outlet.

The Christian network’s aim is ‘Connecting Faith to Life’. Its mission statement says it does this though a mix of vibrant, contemporary music plus positive, practical talk on real life issues – all of which works together to give hope and encouragement with Christian values at the heart.

Worby told radioinfo, “When many people think of Christianity, they immediately think of something stuffy and out of touch with real life. Vision is not like that – far from it.”

Family issues and news feature prominently on the station. Vision also features an hourly news service which reports current affairs through the lens of a Christian worldview.

Yarrawonga is a beautiful country area, home to about 10,000 people living in the twin towns of Yarrawonga and Mulwala, located on opposite sides of the Murray River. The seven local churches work closely together and members of their congregations have desired for many years to establish Vision Radio.

In a remarkably generous move, before receiving Christian radio in their own town, the combined churches of Yarrawonga raised the funds to put Vision’s 200th station on the air in Yulara (near Uluru, Ayers Rock) on Australia Day 2005.

More than two years later, the day finally arrived for the believers of Yarrawonga to receive their own Vision station – and significantly, it was to be the 300th station.

The antenna was placed on the highest structure in Yarrawonga – a 46-metre high de-commissioned grain silo owned by a local Christian businessman. The antenna on top of this iconic landmark can be seen from anywhere in town.

‘We are delighted that we’ve got the Christian message going from here,’ said Trevor Jones, a local Christian. “We like to be pioneers up here in Yarrawonga and we definitely wanted to get this station. And we’re excited about the fact that it’s the 300th station”.
