Troy Cassar-Daly inducted into Tamworth Roll of Renown

At this year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival, Troy Cassar-Daly was selected for the industry’s most prestigious award – the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown.

He is the 50th recipient since the Roll was inaugurated in 1976.

Troy’s wife, 4KQ’s Laurel Edwards and children, Clay and Gem (pictured below) were in Tamworth alongside him to accept the award which came as a complete surprise to the family.

Troy also won the Album of the Year Award at the music festival’s Golden Guitar Awards – a proud addition to his previous 34 Gold Guitars and multiple other industry awards.

Laurel says she’s so proud of Troy being inducted into the Roll Of Renown, the highest honour in Australian Country Music.

“It was a shock announcement at the Golden Guitar Awards made extra special as it was presented to Troy by Slim Dusty’s wife and legendary performer in her own right, Joy McKean. Another special moment of the Tamworth Country Music Festival was performing ‘Things I Carry Around’ on stage with Troy at the awards. We often sing around the kitchen table at home, but to perform on Country Music’s night of nights was truly amazing.

“Personally, the past 12 months have been a bit rough with Troy releasing and promoting both his album and biography ‘Things I Carry Around’ – but it was a great start to 2017 to have him win Album Of The Year.

“The whole Tamworth festival was fantastic with Troy having his sold out show at The Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre and ‘stage hopping’ with friends like Kasey Chambers and Lee Kernaghan, culminating in the unveiling of The Roll Of Renown… We’re all still beaming, but his new crown doesn’t get him out of vacuuming or taking the bins out!”

Inaugurated by Radio 2TM in 1976, the Roll of Renown award honours Australians and New Zealanders who have shaped the industry by making a significant and lasting contribution to Country Music. Among the forty eight previous honourees (including individuals, duos and bands) are Slim Dusty, John Williamson, Phil and Tommy Emmanuel and Lee Kernaghan who are now immortalised on the famous giant granite boulders, located outside the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC).
