Tony Abbott and Peta Credlin create podcast together for Sky

Sky has reunited Tony Abbott and Peta Credlin for a new podcast called Abbott and Credlin (I personally would have loved CredAbot).

Those invested in Australian politics will know that Credlin was the Former Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, with Abbott already being a fairly regular guest on Credlin’s Sky News show and the associated podcast.

We’re accustomed to US former presidents (and their partners) creating podcasts, but until recently this hadn’t really been explored in Australia.

Now though we’ve had Malcolm Turnbull defending democracy, A Podcast of One’s Own by Julia Gillard in her role as Chair of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership and John Howard discussing his then Prime Ministerial role and response in the AFP commissioned podcast Operation Alliance: 2002 Bali Bombings released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attack which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians. The latter podcast is harrowing, brilliantly and empathetically produced and highly recommended.

Tony Abbott has told The Australian (subscription required) that the new podcast will support conservative politics in this country, saying:

“Plainly the demise of the Morrison government, and the inevitable cries that this marks the start of some sort of long-term crisis for Australian conservatism, is a good time to take stock and, I dare say, to fight back.”

Abbott and Credlin launch on Wednesday July 19 and will release fortnightly episodes. Credlin already releases five hour long podcast episodes a week for Sky.
