This International Nurses Day, Grant Broadcasters radio stations across Queensland have said a big ‘Thank You’ to the frontline workers who have been risking their lives to keep the country safe throughout the Covid19 Crisis.
Celebrated annually on the 12thMay, International Nurses Day is a day to recognise the contribution nurses make to society, which in the current climate couldn’t feel more important.

There is a Star on the rise in Cairns

Star 102.7 has continued their upward movement over the past 2 years to now move into the number one position as Cairns most listened to station according to the latest Xtra Insights survey.
Having made gains of over 5% last year, Star added another 2.7% to get to 22.4, ahead of stablemates hit 103.5 (down 2.1 to 20.7) and Triple M Cairns (down 0.6 to 15.2).

In only the second time since 2003 radio ratings have been released for Cairns.

The competitive Far North Queensland radio market has undergone big changes since the last survey was released in June 2016, with Hot FM and Sea FM rebranding to Hit 103.5 Cairns and Triple M Cairns respectively.  

And despite a drop in this survey Hit 103.5 remains the station listened to most with 22.2% ALL People 10+.

They were followed by Triple M Cairns with 16.9% and Star 102.7 14.4%.

Radio host named as a castaway

Barry Lea from Star 102.7 in Cairns has been named as one of 24 castaways in the reality TV show Australian Survivor, filmed in Samoa.

The 44 year old is described in his bio as "... a confident, articulate, strong, laid-back, funny and successful Aboriginal/South Sea Islander. He has the gift of the gab and currently works at Star FM in Cairns. Barry represents the quintessential Australian larrikin and has a big personality that will no doubt see him loved by all on the island".

This quote from the brilliant Jane Caro is about the most refreshing and exciting comment I’ve ever read in regards to market research. Just imagine the programming possibilities for commercial radio if a program director took a similar stance.
