Kevin Hillier, Mark Fine latest axeings in SEN shake-up

SEN has sacked the veteran broadcasters.

According to reports in the Herald Sun, Mark Fine's 13 years at SEN ended late yesterday after a phone call from management. Kevin Hillier has been with the station 11 years. 

Hillier posted on Facebook ​"It's funny really, in 45 years of radio I've only been sacked a few times but notched another up today. My time at 1116 SEN is over." 

"Been doing summers and fill ins since 2007, never wanted a full time gig.

Hyundai A-League returning to 1116 SEN

The Hyundai A-League soccer is returning to 1116 SEN after a brief hiatus.

Crocmedia’s Football Nation call will make its 2017/2018 season debut this Saturday night for the Melbourne Victory versus Perth Glory clash at AAMI Park.

The Adelaide United versus Sydney FC match will air the next night.

A regular slate of Victory and Melbourne City matches will follow in the coming weeks as well as other marquee matches.

SEN parent company in trading halt before expected merger

Melbourne commercial sport station SEN's parent company, Pacific Star Network, has notified the Australian Stock Exchange of a trading halt, ahead of what is expected to be a merger announcement.

As we reported in November, CrocMedia has been in discussions with Pacific Star about a merger. It is not certain whether the merger will involve the whole Pacific Star operation, or just SEN.

Pacific Star Network broadcasting revenue up 6% as company considers merger

At today's Annual General Meeting of Pacific Star Network, shareholders heard that broadcasting revenue was up, but that the company's other revenue sources were down in the last financial year.

Shareholders also considered a motion to merge with CrocMedia (see related report). When the result of the motion is known, we will report it here on radioinfo.

Following the resignation of non-executive director of Pacific Star Network (which owns sports radio station SEN) and major shareholder Ron Hall (28.4%), the Herald Sun is reporting suggestions that media company Crocmedia is set to buy a controlling interest in SEN.  

Pacifiic Star increases profit by 15%

SEN and MyMP parent company, Pacific Star has released its annual report.

Combined revenue for radio and print businesses increased 15% to $23.98 million.

Radio broadcast revenue was $14.49 million, an increase of $100,000 on last year.

NPAT (net profit after tax) was $1.09m, up from a loss of $79,000 last year.

The company has recognised $610,941 of restructuring costs. These costs are predominantly the impact of redundancy and terminations across all parts of the business and by their nature are considered to be one-off costs.

Social media was abuzz the day after the ACRA finalists for 2016 were announced with Eddie Olek and his son Josh Olek both getting a nod.
It seemed everyone was debating if they were the first father/son combo to be nominated in the same year.
Not so according to Eddie.
