Nothing beats a good old-fashioned marriage proposal on live radio.

Following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in New Zealand, Hughesy & Kate‘s producer Nick Daly wasted no time in popping the question to his long term boyfriend, Nova’s Integration Project Manager, Kane Dempsey, live on the Melbourne breakfast show this morning.

Having been together for seven-and-a-half years discussed marriage in the past, it wasn’t really on the agenda until this morning, when the breakfast duo invited the boys into the studio to discuss the passing of the bill.

Nick made the most of the occasion, unexpectedly. “It’s time with this whole thing happening that I am going to ask you Kane, will you marry me.”

Kane was not ready for the proposal, but accepted. “Jesus, didn’t expect this to happen on me (old English tone) Thursday. Um yes.”
