Caroline Wilson to deliver Andrew Olle lecture

Tuesday 18 September, 2018

Walkley Award winning journalist, Caroline Wilson, will deliver the 2018 Andrew Olle Media Lecture in November.
Wilson, the chief football writer for The Age for 19 years, and the first woman to cover AFL on a full time basis, says she a little daunted, but honoured to be delivering the lecture. “Andrew was an inspirational pillar of Australian journalism and broadcasting and I so look forward to trying to do justice to his legacy at such an important event, and during what is clearly a pivotal period in media history.”

When Richard Glover was rejected by 2UE

Sunday 02 July, 2017

It may have been the biggest talent scouting blunder since The DECCA record company’s Dick Rowe passed up the opportunity to sign The Beatles.

Rowe is believed to have told their manager that "Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein.”

That was (as legend has it) in 1962.

When ego overtakes talent

Tuesday 12 August, 2014

Opinion from Peter Saxon

I’m not ashamed to admit it, I’ve long been a fan of Mike Carlton’s talent - ever since his 2GB days in the 1980’s when I used to listen for hours on a daily commute by car from the Blue Mountains to the city. I found most of his views in the same ballpark as mine and we shared a common love of all things Python. I even bought his book, Off the Air. It’s not Hemingway but it’s a fun read, if you like that unique Carlton comic style of writing. Which I do, it never failed to amuse me.

Mike Carlton: rude, racist and unprofessional

Wednesday 06 August, 2014

Opinion from Peter Saxon

Just over a month ago radioinfo reported, and I commented, on 2GB’s sacking of Michael Smith for insulting Muslims by calling their Prophet a paedophile.

Radio... it's verbal snapchat

Thursday 03 July, 2014
During a discussion this week about kids listening to the radio during school holidays, 702 ABC Sydney's Richard Glover and James Valentine made some good points about radio in this fast paced online age.

"I always reckon that if they invented radio last, it would be regarded as really cool technology. Compare it to a podcast, you can interact with it, you can ring it up, you can be live in the moment. It's social media in the audio sense," said Glover.

Top paid ABC Radio identities

Wednesday 20 November, 2013
Director of Radio, Kate Dundas is, unsurprisingly, the most highly paid ABC Radio staff member, earning $298,207. She is 14th on the list of most highly paid staff members at the national broadcaster, behind ABC Newsreader Juanita Philips and a range of corporate identities.

Former 2GB CEO Angela Clarke, who is now the ABC's Director of Innovation, comes in 5 places above Kate Dundas, earning $334,225.
