Decision on Radio Adelaide's future expected Friday

Radio Adelaide broadcasters, staff and volunteers will hear tomorrow about the station's future.

The University of Adelaide will announce its decision about transferring the community broadcast license to another organisation, after spending a month considering submissions from various organisations that would like to take over the station.

Four organisations are believed to have made submissions to take over the licence.

Despite a strong campaign to ‘Save Radio Adelaide’ it seems increasingly likely that the University of Adelaide will cut the station adrift from university ownership and re-form its ownership structure under a different business entity.

The University of Adelaide has announced it is planning a new ownership structure for Radio Adelaide, which may see it handing the licence to another organisation or at least relinquishing control of day to day operations.

If that happens, it is unlikely that the university would continue to fund the operations of Radio Adelaide in the long term.

SA Parliament passes motion to support Radio Adelaide

The South Australian Legislative Council has recognised the iconic value of Radio Adelaide, and the vision of the University of Adelaide in establishing Australia’s first community radio station, in a unanimous vote today.

Tammy Franks MLC, from the South Australian Greens, moved to support Radio Adelaide in the Legislative Council this afternoon.
