Radio 10 resurrected in Queensland

The old Radio Ten callsign, later changed to Stereo 10, has been resurrected in Queensland by a group of enthusiasts.

Stereo 10 on 1008 AM was a former Brisbane AM Radio Station with a Top 40 Music format from 1985 until 1988.

The station’s studios were located on Coronation Drive, Auchenflower, Brisbane and were officially opened by Boy George & Culture Club on July 1st, 1984.

The AM 1008 frequency has a famous history, starting as 4IP Ipswich, which had its heyday as part of the 2SM/3XY network. After the coming of FM, the station changed format and identity several times, trying to keep up with the new FM players. Radio 10, then later Stereo 10 were part of that evolution. The format gained followers in the 1980s, but ultimately could not compete with the FM stations. The frequency was eventually sold to the TAB and is now operated as 4TAB.

In 2014, Stereo 10 Brisbane was resurrected and is now owned and managed by Pantherslair Productions Australia, as an online, non profit, nostalgic community based organisation.

Stereo 10 has announced plans to launch a 24/7 Online Radio Stream, “playing all of the 80’s favourites, all of the time.” In order to achieve this, the station is seeking the services of a Brisbane based, technical volunteer to help set up the online radio stream service.

The popularity of this announcement through the Facebook page and Website, led to the release of a series of test podcasts over the Festive Season of 2016, to gauge the feasibility and viability of launching an online radio stream. Over 3000 people were reached and shared the podcasts within a 48 hour period.

As a result of the “overwhelming audience support,” the station is now looking for volunteers to help with on air, copywriting, voiceover, sales and technical work. It could be a good way for aspiring radio people to get some training and experience, says the station’s Robbie Cohen. Contact [email protected] to find out more.

At the time that 4IP was rebranded Radio 10, it moved to new state of the art studios, pictured here with presenter Peter Gooch.
