Power fm fills on-air vacancy with local talent in Hunter Valley

The Hunter Valley in NSW is better known for producing great wines than on-air talent…for now. But if 98.1 Power fm continues to provide the locals with opportunities to become professional announcers who knows what the region may become famous for in years to come.

Last year the station took out the ACRA Award for Best Station Promotion (regional) for its Who Wants to be a Jock On Air promotion. Building on that success, Power once again turned to its audience to fill its latest on-air vacancy with Muswellbrook girl Rhiannon Forster taking out the coveted prize.

Rhiannon was among a group of just under a hundred people to nominate for the competition and made it through the interview processes to be in the final five. She will now undertake an intense training period with the aim of working as an announcer for 98.1 Power fm and sister station 98.1 2NM.

Rhiannon said she ‘was over the moon’ when her name got read out by Drive announcer Richo as the winner and added she couldn’t wait to start such an exciting new career.

Program Director Dayle Richardson says “Rhiannon excelled in a competition where the contestants had to show their passion for the industry. We were looking for people who really wanted the job, and the final five really showed how far they were prepared to go.”
