Triton Digital has released its monthly digital audio Top 20 Ranker figures for December 2018.

The data is dominated by American streaming listening, but also includes international streaming in the data we examined (we excluded Latin American data).

SiriusXM will seek to acquire Pandora to create what is says will be “the worlds largest audio entertainment company”
The US$3.5billion purchase comes after SiriusXM purchased 14% of Pandora last year.
Initially there are no expected changes to the content offerings or subscription rates of either service as they will continue as separate entities, with SiriusXM continuing to offer ad-free content.

A study of American audio consumption by music streaming service Pandora has, not unexpectedly, talked up the growth of music streaming and podcasting, but has also acknowledged that traditional analog broadcast radio is still strong, but is "finding a new place in the audio landscape."

In Australia, where the radio industry is stronger than in America, Pandora recently closed down its local operations and disabled its mobile app.

It was in March Pandora's inaugural Managing Director for the ANZ region, Jane Huxley, left Pandora to pursue other opportunities.

Pandora launches its second in-agency radio station for Carat

Pandora has launched Carat Radio – Powered by Pandora, its second in-agency radio station, as an extension of its Pandora for Business offering.

Carat Sydney approached Pandora earlier this year looking to partner with a music provider that could energise the office, and reflect the agency’s culture.

Pandora worked closely with Carat to identify the agency’s favourite songs and artists, and working with Pandora’s Sydney-based curation team to create a personalised radio experience.

Pandora moves into custom events with the launch of ‘Sunset Sessions’ in Australia

Pandora has launched its first custom client event in Sydney, German folk sensation Milky Chance performing for 200 Pandora listeners.

The Sunset Sessions event, held in May, is the first in an ongoing series that Pandora will host this year in conjunction with Universal Music Australia.

Pandora will use its audience data alongside Universal to unearth hot trending artists who appeal to millennial listeners, while also providing advertisers with a unique sponsorship experience.

Pandora launches 20 music genre sponsorships for advertisers

Pandora has launched genre sponsorships in Australia.

More than 20 genres with 200+ stations are now available to sponsor, providing advertisers with the opportunity to reach listeners through specially curated ‘music moments’ on Pandora.

This offering was first introduced in the US in 2012 and has driven strong results for US advertisers.

The genres sponsorships available include ‘Love Songs’, ‘Workout’, ‘Wind Down’, ‘Driving’, ‘Gaming’, ‘New Music’ and ‘Women in Music’ among others, and appeal to specific listener occasions.

The magazine that now morphs into radio

That was the idea behind Rolling Stone Radio, a collaboration between Rolling Stone Australia and Pandora.

Each month, Rolling Stone Radio will bring the magazine to life via a carefully curated Pandora station, jam-packed with all the music and artists featured in the issue. The station will be updated monthly with new music and audio messages from the featured artists.
