Nick, Jess & Simon’s Lip Sync Battle

Since the bankruptcy of White Ribbon Australia, Newcastle’s Hit106.9 breakfast trio Nick, Jess & Simon made it their goal to raise as much awareness a possible for the work White Ribbon did in the local community and for domestic violence on a grander scale.

In true style, the guys wanted to host the ultimate event for their listeners to come together through a Lip Sync Battle, and they will take on known faces from the Hunter.

The breakfast team will be joined on stage by 2019 Bachelor contestant Elly Miles, NBN Weatherman Gavin Morris and State Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthrop with a special performance by Samantha Jade singing her new single Bounce.

Nick, Jess & Simon said: “After touching on the news that White Ribbon Australia had gone into liquidation, the conversation continued between the three of us around those disturbing stats of violence against women and domestic violence.

“From a local standpoint, regional NSW is one of the worst areas for it. We were talking on air about how, on average, one woman a week is killed by her current or former partner. How the death toll of women who have been murdered at the hands of violence this year alone sits at 45 and how four of those women are from the Hunter.

“We opened the phones and took calls from local women who shared their stories of abuse. How they were isolated from their friends and family, how their social media was controlled, finances restricted, movements monitored, how they were threatened daily, the emotional, physical and sexual abuse they had to endure.

“These brave women told us their stories in the hope other women experiencing violence and abuse would hear it and know that there were people in our community who would listen, who could help. That there was a way out and they deserved better.

“Their bravery inspired us, and so we wanted to put our own flag in the ground and do something and thus the Lip Sync Battle was born; our initiative to battle violence against women.

“To continue the conversation and encourage the cultural change in the direction it needs to go. The community response has been extraordinary, so many individuals and organisations getting on board and offering their support in a multitude of ways to help us put this event on.”

In an epic showdown, national Hit Network music guru Ash London will emcee the evening as Nick, Jess & Simon take the stage on Wednesday, 6 November at St Phillips Theatre.
