ACMA releases guidance to digital platforms

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released a position paper outlining its expectations for a voluntary code or codes of practice on misinformation and news quality to be developed by digital platforms.

ACMA finds Alan Jones breached broadcasting rules

Alan Jones has provided an on-air correction following an ACMA investigation that found the licensee of radio station 2GB in breach of broadcasting rules due to inaccurate comments he made about climate change.
2GB was also found to have breached decency rules in relation to comments made by Mr Jones regarding New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The ACMA received more than 125 complaints about a broadcast of The Alan Jones Breakfast Show that went to air in 2019.

More than 8 in 10 Australian adults are concerned about large advertisers influencing the news, according to new research from the ACMA.

The research was released today in conjunction with an ACMA discussion paper, 'Impartiality and commercial influence in broadcast news'.

5MU looks to move to FM

Listeners of the commercial radio station 5MU in Murray Bridge, Mount Barker and Victor Harbor may soon be retuning their radios if the ACMA accepts a proposal by the station to swap from AM to FM transmission.
