My Generation® clocks up 600 episodes

There was a little dispute between the producer, mcm media, and the presenter Jono Coleman about exactly when they should publicise the fact that My Generation had notched up its 600th episode. Jono wanted to do it when he recorded it back in May, but mcm wanted to wait till now and hastily pulled his media release. Never mind, between their people and his people, they managed to get two bites of the publicity cherry. Dispute over.

Besides how could mcm stay mad at Jono when the program is currently the biggest syndication of its kind in Australia reaching almost half a million people across 91 metro and regional markets around the country every week.

It also continues to attract big name guests ranging from Alice Cooper and Meatloaf to Mick Jagger and Kylie Minogue.

Coleman, who cut his radio teeth in at 2WS Sydney in 1979 is in the right demographic to relate to the predominately over 35’s who tune in to reminisce over the music, people and events of the 70s, 80s and 90s. He is only the third host in the history of the show taking over the reins in 2004 while he was still based in London. He also presents the Jono & Dano Show with Ian “Dano” Rogerson daily across the Australian Radio Network 4-7pm weekdays.

Coleman says, “I have so many fond memories as the host, not to mention the hysterically funny moments, like the time Paul McCartney didn’t realise he was on air and said to me ‘Is this Jono – the fat DJ from London?’ or when Meatloaf came on the show for an interview and enjoyed it so much he stayed to co-host throughout the entire program.”

Coleman says he has some surprises lined up for the 600th show, “I’m particularly looking forward to revealing the 1983 super hit which was written on the porcelain throne, eight miles high, half-way across the Atlantic!”

mcm CEO Simon Joyce says “Reaching our 600th episode this month is a truemilestone for this iconic show that uniquely provides our stations’ listeners with an escape from everyday life and a trip down memory lane.”
