Mikey Robins flying high and jumping for joy after vega overtakes Triple M

Nielsen’s 7th survey for 2008 turned out to be a big milestone for Sydney’s vega 95.3 fm. Having trailed the commercial field ever since its launch over three years ago, it has now for the first time, overtaken another tailender, the once mighty Triple M.

The Tony, Bec and Mikey breakfast show has also prevailed over their multi-M rivals, albeit with a slender 0.1 lead which also places them only 0.1 behind Todd and Sonia over at Mix. Who knows, they might knock Alan Jones off his perch yet.

In any case, so elated is Mikey Robins that he will be literally jumping for joy on Friday – from an aircraft from about 12,000 feet. Actually, he’ll be jumping for Margaret, his mother-in-law, who first jumped at 60. Mikey’s wife Laura will also be jumping.

Mikey, who is seriously scared of heights, but perhaps more scared of copping crap from his mother-in-law for the rest of his life, was challenged by a listener, a veteran of 6,000 jumps.

Mikey will do the tandem skydive, with 60 seconds freefall and 5 minutes flying under a parachute…we hope. The whole thing will be broadcast live on Friday’s show from 7am.

You can hear audio of Mikey’s mother-in-law talking about skydiving at the vega website..
