It wasn't a great survey for ABC Local Radio - except for Adelaide’s 891.

With 11.4 percent share of the audience in that market it holds down second place overall while number one in Breakfast with Matthew Abraham and David Bevan on a 16.6 share. It’s not a bad effort for an AM station in an FM music leaning town.

In the more talk oriented markets of Sydney and Melbourne, ABC’s 702 and 774 have, until recently with a few odd surveys notwithstanding, held a mortgage on second place behind 2GB and 3AW respectively.

ABC Local Radio looks to the future

ABC Managing Director Michelle Guthrie will introduce changes to ABC Local Radio's brand and approach in a speech at the Wheeler Centre in Melbourne tonight.

In  a memo to staff from the Director of ABC Radio, Michael Mason said,

" We’ve put a lot of thought into revitalising the Local Radio brand to make sure it resonates for current and future audiences in the way they want it to.  A major development has been optimising the Local Radio websites for live and on-demand audio.  

Connected cars the new frontier for ABC Radio

ABC Radio’s live and on-demand content will reach new audiences with the ABC Radio app now ready for the connected car and available via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Connected car users can access their favourite podcasts and streamed or segmented content from stations like ideas network RNtriple j, local metro or regional stations, ABC Classic FM and music network Double J by using their Apple or Android smartphones to connect to their car’s infotainment system.

Judith Whelan joins ABC Radio

Sydney Morning Herald editor Judith Whelan, has been appointed ABC Radio's Head of Spoken Content, to oversee its talk networks and programs.

Judith will provide editorial and creative direction to meet the overall strategic goals of ABC Radio and the wider corporation. 

As Head of Spoken Content, Whelan will be responsible for ABC Radio’s flagship programs within the Capital City radio network, Grandstand and the ideas network RN. 

The appointment as Head of Spoken Content completes ABC Radio’s executive restructure.

Today is Tony Delroy's last day with ABC Radio.

The popular announcer revealed in July he would be leaving after 26 years presenting ABC Local Radio’s successful Nightlife program, and more than 30 years at the ABC, to explore his passion for travel.

“We’ve been doing travel spots over the past quarter of a century and boy do I have a hit list, it seems like the perfect time for me to kick start the dream," he announced.
