Mick leaves Sarah, Mick and 7HOFM

Matt Newell has left 7HOFM after working alongside his father, Mick, for the past two years doing the breakfast show.
 
Matt, who moved across from Hobart’s Hit100.9 in April 2017, found the demands of doing a breakfast program hasn’t allowed him to pursue his passions that include his music and acting.
 
The former MKR contestant will be joined in South Hobart by his partner who is moving from Melbourne.

 

Radio community celebrates same sex marriage vote

Australia today has overwhelmingly voted in favour of same sex marriage.
 
Australian Statistician David Kalisch announced the results of the ABS postal survey at 10am from Canberra as Australia held a collective breath.
 
Out of 12.7 million votes, 61.6 per cent were returned in favour of same-sex marriage.
 
It was in 2015 I wrote an article for radioinfo about coming out on air.

From radio to real estate

He became a household name after appearing on My Kitchen Rules with his Dad Mick, before going on to have a career in radio.

However, Matt Newell has left his media career behind for a job in real estate.

"It was an incredibly hard decision. I loved the fun environment that is a radio station, but I didn't feel like I was getting enough out of the role as a day announcer. I've always had aspirations to work fo myself and moving into real estate is helping me achieve that."
